Raku Days - 10.30-3.30pm - lunch/refreshments included

Come and have lots of fun at one of our dynamic, hands on Raku days where you will glaze a pot ( avaliable to purchase if you have not made your own) and then we will fire in an outdoor gas kiln and plunge into combustibles (sawdust and paper) to create dramatic, metalic and crackle glaze effects.

Duration
10.30 am - 3.30pm with 1 hour lunch break (lunch is provided)
Suitable for Potters and Non Potters aged 16+
Cost - £120 per person per session including refreshments and light lunch.
Plus small charge to purchase a pots for glazing and firing.

Equipment and materials
Everything is provided, including apron, gloves, tools, biscuit fired pots (small charge per pot), glazes and tea and coffee and light lunch.

You can bring your own biscuit fired pots in a suitable clay
for Raku measuring up to 25cm tall x 12cm wide Unfortunately, larger pots can't accommodated.

Before the session

֍Please look at the weather forecast and wear suitable clothes and shoes, as this session is mainly outdoors.

֍ Charge your phone or camera to capture some memories of the day and shots of your work in progress.

During the session
֍ Roz your tutor will give you an introduction to this exciting and unpredictable ancient Japanese firing practice.
֍ Roz will show you some examples and methods of glazing to give you the most effective and impressive results.
֍ You will glaze the pots provided with a choice of different Raku glazes.
֍ Roz will fire your pots to 1000°C in our outdoor kiln, removing them at the critical moment and
leaving them to burn in combustible material.
֍ You will cool your pieces in water and scrub away the ashes, revealing stunning, completely individual decorative ceramic pieces.

After the session
֍ You can take your pieces home straight away on the same day as the session.
֍ You may need to wash your pieces again to remove odours.
֍ You can use these pots for decorative purposes only,
they should not be used for food or drink
