Warm Tan-Brown Crystalline Glaze with Mottled Mineral Effects
Purite Studio Line Crystalline Glaze develops a warm tan-brown fired surface with darker mottling, fine speckling and natural-looking crystalline variation beneath a gloss finish. Its softer mineral character makes it a useful choice when you want visible surface movement without the stronger contrast found in more dramatic crystalline colours.
Crystal development can change with glaze thickness, clay body, firing cycle and kiln conditions, so each firing may produce a different distribution of colour and crystalline detail. Test Purite on your chosen clay body and schedule before using it on important work, particularly when adjusting the firing cycle to encourage greater crystal growth.
- Known to flow during firing, so keep heavier application away from the base and allow for glaze movement.
- A standard Cone 6 firing at around 1220°C can develop crystalline effects with a soak.
- Extended or stepped cooling can encourage larger or more complex crystal development.
