Iron Oxide (Yellow Ochre)

Synonyms: Ferric oxide

Produces browns and honey yellows in glazes depending upon amount. Yellow ochre weakest but most miscible of the iron oxides. All are good painting pigments.

Raw colour of powder: Mustard/ochre 

Colour responses after firing:

• Painted onto clay (raw or bisque): Mustard-Brown
• Painted onto unfired glaze: Brown (honey)
• Mixed into glaze: Brown (honey)
• Reduction firing: Brown (honey)
