Iron Oxide (Red) Fe₂O₃

Synonyms: Haematite, ferric oxide

Synthetic version 4511 is more finely grained, but even then speck-free pigmentation cannot be guaranteed.  Glaze producers resolve this by wet ball milling their glazes so the pigment is ground very finely into the glaze. Sieving through a finer mesh will reduce the specking but probably will not prevent it.
